중성화 수술은 생식 기능을 제거해 번식을 막고 호르몬 관련 질환을 예방하는 수술입니다. 수컷은 고환, 암컷은 난소와 자궁을 제거하며, 잠복고환의 경우 고환 위치에 따라 복부 절개가 필요할 수 있습니다.

심장병은 노령동물에게 흔히 발생하며 혈액 펌프의 기능저하로 혈액 순환에 문제가 생기는 질환입니다. 심장은 온몸으로 산소와 영양분을 실어 나르는 중요한 기관이기 때문에, 기능이 떨어지면 다양한 문제가 발생합니다. 일반적으로 선천성 심장병과 후천성 심장병으로 구분이 가능하며 초기에 증상이 거의 없는 경우가 많아 발견이 어려운 질환입니다.

중성화 수술은 번식 예방뿐 아니라 호르몬 관련 질환과 문제 행동을 줄이는 데 도움이 됩니다. 수컷은 고환 종양·전립선 질환, 암컷은 유선 종양·자궁축농증 등의 위험을 낮출 수 있으며, 발정기 행동과 마킹·공격성·울음 등도 완화될 수 있습니다. 중성화는 일반적으로 생후 5~7개월에 권장되며, 건강 상태와 품종 등을 고려해 수의사와 상담 후 시기를 결정하는 것이 중요합니다.

수술 후 통증 조절과 상처 부위 관리가 필요하며, 일정 회복 기간을 거쳐 점진적으로 일상 활동에 복귀합니다.
